No fewer than nine passengers were kidnapped on Thursday evening when gunmen attacked a commercial bus on the Itobe–Anyagba road in Kogi State.
Security analyst, Zagazola Makama, disclosed the incident on Friday in a post on X(formerly Twitter).
Makama explained that the attack happened at about 4:20 p.m. near Ogbabo Junction.
According to Makama, the assailants emerged from the bush, fired sporadically, forcing a Peace Mass Transit bus to halt.
“The driver, identified as Sunday Okechi, and six passengers managed to escape, but nine others were seized and taken into the bush by the attackers,” Makama disclosed.
Security operatives, who arrived at the scene, recovered the bus with registration number ENZ-55 XS and a blue Toyota Carina ‘E’, which were abandoned during the attack.
A joint search operation involving security agencies, members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, and local hunters has commenced to rescue the victims and track down the perpetrators.
Authorities have urged motorists plying the route to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security operatives.
