Youths in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State have raised the alarm that the 27.5 – kilometer Igbokoda-Okitipupa road project has been abandoned two months after the flag-off.
Thefrontrank reports that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa had on June 2, 2025 flagged off the dualisation of the road as part of activities marking his 100 days in office.
Aiyedatiwa, while speaking at the ceremony in Igbokoda, said the road would boost connectivity and drive economic development across the Southern Senatorial District.
Bemoaning the present state of the project, the youth under the aegis of Ilaje Youths Development Forum said no meaningful progress had taken place on the road project beyond the ceremonial flag-off by the Governor.
They stated this in a letter titled “Re-Urgent Attention To Road Contruction Projects In Ilaje Local Government Area” addressed to the Governor.
The letter was signed by Comr. Emoruwa orire Bonerge, President, Ilaje Youths Development Forum; Comr. Ogungbure Joseph, General secretary; Inspector Ayomide Emmanuel, Public Relations officer; and Pst. Isogun juwon, Spokesperson to president ilaje youths Development
The letter reads: “We, the Ilaje Youths Development Forum, write to bring to your notice a pressing concern regarding the ongoing road construction projects in our local government area. Specifically, we wish to draw your attention to the Igbokoda to Okitipupa road and the Akoko and Ikare road projects.
“While we commend your administration for flagging off these critical infrastructure projects, we observe with dismay that the Igbokoda to Okitipupa road project has not seen any meaningful progress. Despite the flag-off, no engineer or contractor has commenced work or made any measurements on the site. In stark contrast, the Ikare road project, which was flagged off around the same time, has seen significant activity with contractors and engineering workers already on site.
“We humbly plead with Your Excellency to intervene in this matter. Given the importance of these roads to our community’s development and the fact that time is of the essence in such projects, we respectfully request that you direct the relevant authorities to ensure that work on the Igbokoda to Okitipupa road commences immediately. We believe that your leadership and directive can expedite the commencement of this project, bringing much-needed relief and development to our area.
“We trust in your commitment to the development of Ondo State and particularly to the Ilaje Local Government Area. We look forward to seeing tangible progress on these projects.”
