
The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi has ordered a day closure of all markets and shops in Akure, the state capital on Friday, August 29, 2025 for the Amole Festival.
Oba Aladetoyinbo said the closure becomes necessary as part of the age long tradition in observance of the annual Aheregbe Festival.
A directive on Thursday from the Deji’s palace, the traditional ruler ordered the total closure of the markets in observance of the annual Amole Festival.
The palace, in a statement signed by Mr. Adeyeye Michael, Chief Press Secretary to the Deji, stated that the closure affects all trading activities, markets, stalls, and shops across Akure.
According to the statement, only pharmacies and patent medicine stores are exempted from the restriction.
It said human and vehicular movement will not be affected.
The statement urged residents, market women, and traders to comply with the directive in the interest of cultural preservation.
Thefrontrank reports that this is the second time in two weeks that markets and shops in Akure were shut by the traditional ruler for festival celebrations.
On August 14, 2025, markets and shops in Akure were shut for the Aheregbe Festival celebration, leaving business and commercial activities in the metropolis and environs grounded.
