There is tension in Plateau State as gunmen on Wednesday night stormed communities, killing two persons and injuring two others.
Those killed including a woman shot in Heipang community, opposite Plateau State Polytechnic.
It was gathered that the attack occurred in Ban community, Heipang, when gunmen stormed the area around 11.00 pm and opened fire on victims.
Three people were hit by bullets and rushed to hospital for treatment.
One of them, a woman, later died due to gunshot wounds while two others sustained injuries.
The shooting triggered panic among students of the Plateau State Polytechnic, especially those living off-campus.
Nanchip Dube, a student of the polytechnic, said the sounds of gunshots threw the campus community into confusion.
“The sounds of gunshots created panic amongst students,” Dube recounted.
Similarly in Riyom Local Government Area, a 27-year-old man, Amos Monday, a resident of Du’a village in Kwi Ward, was killed by gunmen who ambushed some youths between Baten village in Wereng Ward and Du’a village in Kwi Ward at about 8:15 pm.
Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders (BYM), confirmed both attacks to newsmen in Jos.
He advised residents of Kwi, Wereng and neighbouring communities in Jos South, Barkin Ladi and Riyom to remain vigilant.
Efforts to get the reaction of the spokesperson for the Police Command in the state, Alfred Alabo, proved abortive.
It could be recalled that at least 26 persons died, with several others injured, on Palm Sunday night, March 29 following attacks by gunmen in Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba, Jos.
The attacks, which occurred around 7:50 p.m, plunged the community into chaos as residents fled for safety amid sustained gunfire.
