Olajide Oguntodu, the lawmaker representing Akure South Constituency 1 in the Ondo State House of Assembly, says the ongoing impeachment move against the Speaker of the Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, is solely based on alleged gross misconduct and misappropriation of funds.
Oguntodu, while speaking on Crest FM’s political programme The Platform, said that contrary to a statement credited to the House Majority leader, Olatunji Oshati, there is “calmness” in the Assembly as 12 lawmakers have indeed signed an impeachment notice against the Speaker.
The confirmation follows recent reports suggesting a rift within the Assembly over Oladiji’s leadership.
The lawmaker stressed that the allegations against the Speaker are based on “financial misappropriation and recklessness,” specifically pointing to the alleged diversion of N50 million appropriated for a public hearing and the misappropriation of monthly operational grants.
He emphasized that the actions of the Speaker have raised serious concerns regarding transparency and accountability in the Assembly.
Oguntodu, however, denied that the pro-impeachment lawmakers are being sponsored by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
“The move to impeach the Speaker is a matter of integrity and accountability, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the Governor of Ondo State or any other political figure.
“Those who are standing by the Speaker are the ones trying to undermine the state’s progress. They are the evil ones who do not want the best for the Governor or the people of Ondo State,” he stated.
Oguntodu called on the Speaker to submit himself for investigation to address the allegations levelled against him.
He charged Oladiji to the necessary steps to ensure proper governance and accountability in the Assembly.
Thefrontrank reports that 12 lawmakers out of the 26 members of the Assembly in a resolution dated Thursday, November 13, 2025, accused Oladiji of diverting the sum of N50 million appropriated for a public hearing.
The 12 lawmakers also accused the Speaker of mismanaging the Assembly’s monthly operational grants.
The aggrieved lawmakers subsequently passed a vote of no confidence in the Speaker, calling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) to commence investigations into the allegations.
In counter move, 14 members of the Assembly on Friday passed a vote of confidence in the Speaker, expressing their inflicting support for him.
