Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar on Monday formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in a high-profile membership card collection ceremony.
The multiple-time presidential candidate for several of Nigeria’s leading parties had resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) early in 2025.
Thefrontrank reports that the ADC is the party adopted by the coalition opposing President Bola Tinubu and the APC-led government.
Atiku, a two-time Vice President, received his registration card in Yola, Adamawa State.
The announcement was made earlier today via a post on X(formerlyTwitter), where Abubakar shared photos of himself receiving his ADC membership card alongside a customised “Waziri 01” jersey.
The registration attracted a large gathering of supporters, party officials, and community leaders.
“It’s official. – AA,” he wrote, confirming long-standing speculation about his defection from the PDP.
His defection follows his exit from the PDP earlier in 2025.
