No fewer than 84 people have been killed in a bandit attack on Mafa community in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The Yobe State Government on Wednesday conducted a mass burial for the victims in Babangida, the Local Government headquarters.
The attack, which left scores dead and property destroyed, is one of the deadliest in Yobe in recent times.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Dungus Abdulkarim, said about 150 suspected Boko Haram fighters stormed the village on motorcycles with rifles and rocket-propelled grenades.
Thefrontrank reports that the attack led to widespread destruction, with shops and houses set ablaze, forcing nearly all villagers to flee to Babangida,” Abdulkarim said.
He said that residents had since returned to Mafa and that no further incidents had been reported.
The state government’s swift response with a mass burial highlights both the scale of the tragedy and the urgency of reinforcing security measures across vulnerable rural communities.
