As a Class III student in Community Grammar School Ifira Akoko, I fell in love with three books: Wole Soyinka’s “The Man Died”, Efua Sutherland’s “The Marriage of Anansewa”, and Macbeth. These books shaped my perspective on resistance, resilience, progressive resolve and the dangers of greed and materialism.
In Ondo State, the APC is plagued by the same themes. Hon D.I Kekemeke’s rise to Chairman in 2014 was orchestrated by the Prof. Ajayi Boroffice group, using “invisible ballots” to overturn Adetimehin’s victory.
This manipulation set the tone for his tenure, marked by exclusion and power struggles. Even the architects of his victory were the first to “chop breakfast”. Men like Prince Diran Iyantan remained totally outside the political loop. I was an eye witness to this facts of history. The way and manner he led the party, the crisis that occured and his eventual exit are illimitable repercussions of the despicable act on that fateful day. The evil seed was planted and it became to take various shapes and colours ever since.
Kekemeke’s actions echo Ananse’s greed and manipulation in “The Marriage of Anansewa”. Although he is not alone in this deplorable behaviour as there are other elders in the same loop of lust and lost always feasting on the wrong side of history. For context, aside from Barr. Oluwajana, the position of Vice Chairman South West of our party seems to be bewitched. It is always occupied by people more interested in inanities of life than holding the flag of actionable historical activity. For instance, as South West Zonal Leader, Kekemeke’s criminal silence on the invasion and desecration of the party Secretariat and the assault on party leaders and Adetimehin is telling. His tacit support for Aiyedatiwa’s actions, sidelining the party structure, suggests a fratricidal war.
Isaacs Kekemeke’s pattern is clear and decernible. He will dismantle any political ship that does not favour him or meet his personal wxpectation. Upon the wing of history, he enjoyed Agagu’s government to the hilt. He occupied positions that benefits him materially and in status. At the period the man needed him, he engineered his downfall. He is always in a hurry and ready to relieve the stories without remorse. Now, he is fixated on relevance, no matter the cost. This toxic combo of ambition and opportunism threatens Ondo State’s stability and the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Rather than provide leadership from Abuja, he is attempting to climb the Oke Oka hill with clenched hands.
The parallels with Soyinka’s “The Man Died” are stark resistance is crucial against such oppression. Emperors are not rocks. They crumble with their wooden legs and degerate lies made at secret places at the appropriate time.
Let it be known that our party’s future hangs in the balance. For those who made historical sacrifices, who gave foundational supports and understand institutional stability, we must rise to save the party from the hand of political parasitism and prebendal materialistic elements masquerading as sheeps. They are from the wolf colony. E funra, ile nyo!!!
