A former Chairman of Gwaram Local Government Area in Jigawa State, Zahraddeen Abubakar, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Abubakar announced his resignation in a letter dated February 28, 2026, addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Zandam Nagogo Ward in Gwaram Local Government Area.
He said his decision to leave the ruling party takes effect immediately.
“I write to formally notify you of my decision to resign my membership of the APC with immediate effect,” he stated.
The former council chairman explained that his involvement in progressive politics began long before the formation of the APC in 2013, adding that he had remained loyal to the party over the years.
According to him, he initially joined the party with the belief that it would continue to uphold the principles and ideals upon which it was founded. However, he said he now feels the party has gradually departed from those values.
“I had hoped the APC would continue to uphold its founding principles and ideals, but it has become clear to me that the party has gradually moved away from them,” Abubakar said.
He noted that his decision to resign followed careful reflection and consideration.
“In view of this development, I believe it is only proper and honourable for me to step aside and relinquish my membership of the party,” he added.
Abubakar said he will announce his next political step at a later time.
The former chairman is widely regarded as a strong political ally of Badaru Abubakar, a former Governor of Jigawa State and former Minister of Defence.
Badaru was recently linked with speculation about a possible move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a claim he denied through his media aide, Mati Ali.
The former minister maintained that he remains committed to strengthening unity within the APC and mobilising support for Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
