Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, on Friday arrived at Port Harcourt International Airport at about 12:19 p.m. where he was welcomed by crowd of supporters that gathered earlier at the VIP wing of the airport.
.
Fubara, after acknowledging the cheers from hundreds of his supporters, proceeded to the Government House and announced that he would address the state at 6.00 p.m. regarding the path forward.
President Bola Tinubu had on Wednesday lifted the state of emergency previously imposed on Rivers State.
Following this, the Rivers House of Assembly resumed sitting on Thursday and called on the Governor to submit his appropriation bill along with a list of commissioner nominees for screening.
Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, had been under a six-month suspension since March 18, when President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in response to an ongoing political crisis in the state.
During the emergency rule, Tinubu appointed retired Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as the Sole Administrator to manage the affairs of the state.
In a state broadcast on Wednesday, Ibas formally handed over power to Fubara and encouraged political stakeholders in Rivers State to pursue dialogue and mutual respect.
