Gunmen kill former LG chairman
Suspected gunmen on Thursday night killed a former caretaker chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, Udeh Ijachi.
Ijachi, popularly known as “Honourable Ukpem,” was shot dead by attackers in a sudden assault that has left residents of Otukpo in shock.
Eyewitnesses said the incident happened in front of Okabido Hotel, where the former council boss was allegedly ambushed.
According to accounts from the scene, the assailants opened fire on him before escaping.
The gunshots triggered panic in the area, as residents and passers-by rushed out moments later to see what had happened.
As of the press time, the state Police Command had not released any statement on the killing.
However, investigations are expected to begin to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and track down those responsible.
Residents have urged security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and strengthen security in the area to prevent similar occurrences.
