Harira Muhammad Tudun Murtala has been arraigned before the Upper Shari’a Court in the Post Office area of Kano Municipality over allegations of being married to two men at the same time.
Court records show that Harira had been legally married to Sagiru Shuaibu T/Murtala for the past six months, despite the couple living separately.
The case came to light when Shuaibu paid an unexpected visit to her home and allegedly found another man in the bed he considers part of their matrimonial home.
He immediately raised the alarm, prompting the intervention of neighbors.
Initially, Harira denied being married to Shuaibu, but when the presiding judge, Khadi Munzali Tanko Soron-Dinki, instructed her to swear an oath on the Qur’an, she reversed her claim and acknowledged the marriage.
The second husband, Bello Abdullahi Yankaba, testified that he married Harira through her uncle, Abdullahi Umar, after paying a dowry of ₦100,000.
Judge Soron-Dinki ordered the police to conduct further investigations and directed that both Harira and Yankaba be remanded in a correctional facility until May 16.
