The Israeli military has reportedly eliminated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy Commander Alireza Tangsiri.
An Israeli official says that Tangsiri was killed in a strike in Bandar Abbas, adding that he was responsible for the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the Times of Israel reported on Thursday.
There has been no official comment yet from Iran or from the Israeli military on the reported strike.
If his death is confirmed, it would be the latest targeting senior Iranian officials in the ongoing war.
The United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28 that killed its supreme leader and triggered a war in the Middle East.
Tehran has since responded with drone and missile attacks across the region, including strikes on neighboring Gulf countries that say they are neither involved in the conflict nor have allowed their territory to be used to launch attacks.
Iran has also maintained a chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which a fifth of the world’s oil is shipped.
