The Jegun of Idepe-Okitipupa, Oba Michael Obatuga Adetoye (Ogungbemi1), has condemned the separate violent attacks on the Afro-Juju legend, Sir Shina Peters, and a Fuji maestro, Abbas Akande, popularly known as Obesere, by suspected thugs in Okitipupa, the headquarters of Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Thefrontrank reports that the two musicians were attacked by thugs while performing during different burial ceremonies attended by dignitaries.
Sir Shina Peters was reportedly attacked on November 14, 2025, at the Stella Maris College’s playground, while Obesere was attacked and robbed on November 22, 2025 at the Okitipupa Govemment Field.
Reacting to the incidents, Oba Adetoye berated the attacks in a statement issued on Sunday, November 23, 2025, by his Director of Public Relations, High Chief M. F. Ogunsakin, the Oyetoyo of ldepe-Okitipupa.
The revered traditional ruler who described the attacks as unfortunate and shameful, called for a thorough investigation into the two incidents by the police.
The statement read: “The attention of His Royal Majesty, Oba Michael Obatuga Adetoye (Ogungbemi1), the Jegun of Idepe-Okitipupa, has been drawn to two unfortunate incidents involving two of Nigeria’s renowned music legends.
“On 14 November, 2025, an iconic Afro-Juju musician, Sir Shina Peters was physically attacked by suspected cultists at the Stella Maris College’s playground while performing during the final rites of Mr Akinyele Oladipupo Ifajeunnu and late Princess Tomasa Awoboya Ruth Ifajeunnu.
“Similarly on 22nd of November 2025, Mr Abbas Akande, popularly known as Obesere, was physically assaulted at the Okitipupa Govemment Field during a social event.
“In both incidents, the assailants violently dispossessed the artistes of large sums of money and valuables.
“His Royal Majesty condemns these shameful and criminal acts in the strongest terms, describing them as a total embarrassment to the peace-loving people of Idepe-Okitipupa and Ondo State at large.
“He stresses that such acts of lawlessness have no place in our community and calls on security agencies to launch a full investigation, apprehend the perpetrators and ensure that justice is served without delay.
“While law enforcement agencies have already commenced necessary actions, the Jegun-in- Council is equally committed to addressing the growing menace of cultism and thuggery in the community, with a firm resolve to stamp out these criminal elements from the society.
“The Jegun-in-Council deeply regrets the trauma experienced by the two distinguished artistes and expresses profound solidarity with them.
“His Royal Majesty extends warm wishes for their healing, safety and continued success in their musical careers.
“Furthermore, His Royal Majesty reiterates the unwavering commitment of the traditional institution to sustaining peace, order and security across Idepe-Okitipupa.
“He urges all youths and residents to shun violence and all forms of criminality, reminding them that true community progress can only thrive in an atmosphere of harmony, responsibility and mutual respect.”
