Security operatives have arrested suspected killers of three farmers in Ala Igbatoro, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Thefrontrank reports that the suspects, dressed in army camouflage, were arrested by a joint security team in an overnight operation that extended into the early hours of Tuesday.
The joint team, comprising operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Amotekun Corps, carried out the operation inside the forest.
According to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by Yomi Oyekan, an aide to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, a joint team of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Amotekun Corps apprehended the suspects following credible intelligence.
Oyekan stated that the suspects are now in custody and undergoing interrogation to uncover the motive behind the gruesome attack.
He added that security patrols have been intensified across the area to prevent any further breach of peace and to reassure residents of their safety.
The Southern Nigeria Youth Congress had on Monday raised alarm over the “senseless attacks and killings of local farmers” by suspected armed men in area.
The killing of the farmers by the armed bandits in their farmlands has created fears in the residents and tension in the agrarian community.
Residents are calling on government to ensure adequate protection of the lives and property.
