A Naval officer, Lt. A.M. Yarima, who recently clashed with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Sunday evening in Abuja.
According to a report by Vanguard newspaper, the officer was trailed by unidentified men dressed in black and riding in two unmarked Hilux vans with no number plates.
The vehicles reportedly followed him from the NIPCO Filling Station off the Line Expressway to Gado Nasco Way.
A source revealed that Lt. Yarima became aware that he was being monitored and executed a “strategic maneuver” that enabled him to evade the suspected assailants.
The incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m.
The source added that the matter is now under investigation and is being treated with “the seriousness it deserves.”
Further details were withheld to avoid compromising the inquiry.
This development comes just days after Lt. Yarima was involved in a heated confrontation with the FCT Minister at a disputed land site in Gaduwa District.
The officer, who was on duty alongside other security personnel on the day of the incident, challenged the minister’s team over the demolition activity at the location.
The encounter, captured on video, quickly went viral and sparked widespread public debate. The Presidency later intervened, directing an immediate halt to the demolition exercise pending further review.
Authorities are expected to release additional information as investigations progress.
