Oluwakemi Rufai, the councillor representing Ward C1 in the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State, has died.
Thefrontrank reports that Rufai, who was the only woman on the legislative council, was one the councillors inaugurated two weeks ago.
It was gathered the councillor elected on platform of the All Progressives Congress(APC), died in the early hours of Wednesday, following a brief illness.
Sesan Olowa, the Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki LG, while confirming confirmed Rufai’s death in a statement on Wednesday, described the incident as “shocking.”
Reacting, the Lagos State Chapter of APC expressed deep sadness over her death.
The party in a statement by its spokesman, Seye Oladejo, described Rufai as a “rising star within the APC” who embodied “commitment, grassroots service, and gender inclusion.”
APC noted that Rufai’s brief stay in office reflected her dedication to community development and loyalty to the party’s ideals.
