The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State has confirmed the killing of its personnel by a 19-year-old man in Oba-Ile, Akure North Local Government Area.
The spokesperson for the NSCDC in the state, DSC Daniel Aidamenbor, said the officer was stabbed to death with knife.
A community source said the young man—reported to have been experiencing mental health challenges—became violent at home, prompting his mother to seek assistance from security personnel.
The source said the situation escalated when the officers attempted to restrain him to prevent further disturbance.
In the struggle, the teenager allegedly overpowered one of the officers, took a knife from him, and stabbed him multiple times.
The injured officer was rushed to the hospital but later died due to the injuries.
The spokesperson for NSCDC in state explained that the officers were attempting to take the man to the state psychiatric hospital for treatment when the attack occurred.
He described the incident as tragic, noting that the officers were trying to safeguard both the individual and the community.
