Few days into the new year, Ganiyat Ayanwale, a mother of three, has been brutally stabbed to death by her husband, Ayoola Ayanwale inside their home at River Valley Estate, Ojodu, Ogun State.
The tragic incident which happened at about 8:30p.m on Thursday, January 8, 2026, was witnessed by their children.
The reason for the brutal killing of Ganiyat by her husband was yet unknown.
It was gathered that after the first stab that one of the children screamed. After the second, Ganiyat reportedly tried to run. She was dragged back and stabbed again.
Bleeding profusely, Ganiyat staggered towards the gate of the house to alert neighbours by screaming.
Neighbours rushed in and helped convey her to Gifted Hands Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
On the way, she reportedly narrated what happened in broken breaths, insisting she had done nothing wrong.
“I just entered the house. He attacked me,” she told those helping her.
Doctors confirmed that the knife wounds, including injuries close to her lungs, severely affected her breathing. Minutes after arriving at the hospital, she gave up the ghost.
Sources in the neighbourhood described Ganiyat’s husband, Ayoola as a serial wife beater.
According to the sources, he allegedly picked up a knife, and repeatedly stabbed her wife.
The attack, neighbours said, happened in the presence of the couple’s children.
Sources alleged that after the brutal attack, the accused husband returned to the apartment to clean blood stains before fleeing.
However, barely 12 hours later, Ayoola was found in an open field in Sotubo, a suburb of Ogun State, gasping for breath.
He was later pronounced dead in what police suspect to be suicide.
Items recovered at the scene included a bottle containing a suspected liquid substance, two mobile phones, a voter’s card and an ATM card.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said that the command was aware of the incident, and would soon issue a detailed statement.
