The Ondo State Amotekun Corps has arrested a 19-year-old suspected motorcycle thief Oyediran Ayomide.
The Corps nabbed the suspect during its ongoing Ember border security patrol tagged Operation Le Won Jade.
The spokesperson for the Corps, SP Jimoh Adeniken, disclosed this at a news conference on Thursday in Akure.
Adeniken said Ayomide, who hailed from Ola in Kwara, was apprehended in Ajue, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The PRO said the suspect allegedly attacked a commercial motorcyclist with a hammer in Omu-Aran, Kwara State, and escaped with the stolen motorcycle.
“Further investigation revealed that the suspect remained in Ore for some time before attempting to return to Omu-Aran, believing that the owner of the motorcycle might have died from the attack.
“However, security personnel in Ajue community, who had been on alert, eventually apprehended him.
“The suspect (Ayomide) admitted to committing the crime with the intention of using the motorcycle for commercial purposes in Ore.
“He had told the commercial motorcyclist (Okada rider) to take him from Omu-Aran in Kwara to a farm settlement.
“When they got the farm settlement, he pretended to be making a phone call to distract the Okada rider, before hitting him on the head with a hammer.
“The Okada rider abandoned his motorcycle and ran into the bush,” the PRO said.
Adeniken said suspect had been handed over to the Kwara State Local Government Security Initiative for further investigations and prosecution.
Speaking, a representative of the Kwara State Local Government Security Initiative expressed appreciation to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his efforts in strengthening security across the state.
He expressed optimism for deeper collaboration between the two states.
