The Police Command in Ondo State has confirmed the death of another victim of the violent attack during the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward Congress in Idanre, headquarters of Idanre Local Government Area of the state.
Thefrontrank reports that the APC Ward Congress was held on Wednesday, February 18 in all the 18 local government areas of the state.
Addressing journalists on Friday in Akure, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Adebowale Lawal, said the casualty figure has increased from two to three.
According to him, two died on the same day of the attack, while another later died while receiving treatment in the hospital.
He added that several others sustained injuries, including two victims attacked at the APC state secretariat in Akure.
Lawal disclosed that some of the injured are currently at different hospitals receiving treatment.
“We have 13 suspects in custody, and they are being taken to court,” he said.
He said those arrested in connection with the attack would be charged with culpable homicide and assault.
Speaking on the recent abduction of worshippers at a Celestial Church at Uso in Owo Local Government Area, the Commissioner of Police advised religious leaders to temporarily suspend night worship services following rising insecurity in the state.
Thefrontrank reports that six worshippers were kidnapped on February 25 at the church premises during a midnight service.
Police had confirmed that one of the victims was rescued, while 11 suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the attack.
He explained that the suspects were arrested in different locations after sustained surveillance and forest-combing operations in areas linked to the attackers.
