The Ondo State Government has concluded arrangements to flag off payment of inherited arrears of gratuity to the state retirees.
According to a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the State Pension Transitional Department, Dr. Peter Akingbade, years 2018 and 2019 retirees would benefit from the payment which is billed for flag off on Monday, March 30, 2026.
Thefrontrank reports that the event would take place at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor’s office in Akure, the state capital by 1.00pm.
He said a total sum of N2.4 billion has been approved by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the purpose.
The gesture, according to Akingbade is in fulfilment of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s pact on the wellbeing of the retirees who have dedicated their lives to the service to the state with a view to promoting decent living after retirement.
It would be recalled that upon assumption of office, the governor had committed to bulk defrayment of years of backlog of gratuity to retirees starting with year 2012 with the latest targeted at 2018 to 2019 sets.
“The promise to honour retirees has become a reality under the leadership of Governor Aiyedatiwa. Join us as we celebrate years of service, commitment and excellence,” Akingbade said.
The payment is expected be to bring relief to beneficiaries who have waited for years to receive their entitlements and also boost confidence in the state’s pension administration system.
While lauding the commitment of government to the welfare of the senior citizens, the Permanent Secretary urged the beneficiaries to be punctually seated at the venue for the flag-off as scheduled.
