The Ondo State government has once again restricted commercial motorcycle operations, popularly known as Okada, mandating they can only operate between 7.00 am and 6.00 pm to curb rising insecurity in the state.
This order comes into effect from Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
Thefrontrank reports that the latest order reinforced the directive by the State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, to religious leaders to suspend all-night services and vigils to curb rising insecurity.
The Commander of the Amotekun Corps in the state, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, announced the restriction on the commercial motorcycle operations on Wednesday while addressing journalists.
According to him, the measure is aimed at curbing the activities of criminals who exploit the mobility and anonymity provided by motorcycles, particularly during late hours.
Adeleye explained that the ban on night-time motorcycle operations was imperative following report indicating that criminals often use motorcycles to carry out attacks and escape from security operatives.
“As part of efforts to properly document and regulate motorcycle operators in the state, all riders have been given two weeks to register with the Amotekun Corps free of charge,” Adeleye said.
He also announced a ban on cart-pushing activities within major metropolitan areas of the state, noting that the decision was part of broader measures to regulate movements that could aid criminal activities.
Adeleye said that security intelligence had uncovered suspicious activities around some roadside trading points in major towns in the state, sayin adding that such locations are now under close surveillance by security operatives.
Adeleye said that security report had also uncovered suspicious activities around some roadside trading points in some cities in the state, saying security operatives are monitoring such locations.
He noted that security agencies have also intensified operations in the state forest reserves believed to be harbouring criminals responsible for violent crimes.
The Amotekun commander assured residents that the renewed measures would further strengthen the security architecture of Ondo State.
Adeleye urged residents to support security agencies with credible information.
