There is palpable fear that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may lose its permanent national secretariat complex to Senator Jimoh Ibrahim of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The dispute centers on the land where the 12-storey building is being constructed in Abuja’s Central Business District.
Senator Ibrahim representing Ondo South, is claiming ownership of the land at Plot 243, Cadastral Zone A, covering over 7,100 square meters.
He argued that the land belongs to NICON Insurance Limited, a company he acquired in 2005, two years before the land was allocated to the PDP in 2007.
The lawmaker maintained that there was no proper documentation showing the land was separated from the larger NICON property.
The issue has been in court since 2017, with Ibrahim’s NICON Insurance filing a suit to recover the land.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister is also involved in the case. The latest court hearing took place in February 2025.
In March 2025, the FCT Minister issued a revocation order on the same plot, increasing fears within the PDP that the land and the building could be handed over to the APC senator.
The situation is complicated by ongoing conflicts between the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the PDP leadership.
