Police arrest three suspected kidnappers, recover gun, motorcycle in Ondo
In continuation of its sustained and proactive policing strategy aimed at combating crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property across Ondo State, the Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that operatives attached to the Rapid Response Team have intercepted Umar, Muhammadu, and Sabiu during a routine stop-and-search operation at Ibule junction along Ilara Road, as this measure has continued to yield significant results in crime prevention and detection across the State.
During the operation, the suspects were thoroughly searched, leading to the recovery of one machete, one locally fabricated revolver pistol, one live cartridge, and a Bajaj motorcycle. The suspects could not give a satisfactory explanation for being in possession of these items.
Following their apprehension, the suspects made useful confessional statements which have provided valuable leads and are significantly aiding ongoing investigations. These revelations have assisted the Command in identifying other members of the criminal gang believed to be responsible for terrorising residents of Ondo State, particularly from neighbouring communities. Efforts have since been intensified to apprehend other suspects, while all those found culpable will be made to face the full weight of the law. Upon the conclusion of investigations, the arrested suspects will be charged to court accordingly.
Commending the operatives for their prompt and professional conduct, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, underscored the importance of intelligence-led stop-and-search operations in disrupting criminal activities and preventing the proliferation of illicit arms. He further reassured residents of the State that the Command remains resolute and is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across Ondo State.
The Command appreciates the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for his strategic leadership and continuous support, particularly through reforms and technological initiatives aimed at strengthening effective and responsive policing nationwide.
Accordingly, the Ondo State Police Command calls on members of the public to continue to cooperate with police operatives during stop-and-search operations and to promptly report any suspicious movement, object, or person to the nearest police station or security post, as public cooperation remains central to effective policing.
