The Ondo State Police Command says it has arrested two men for allegedly attempting to abduct a three-year-old boy in Ogbagi Akoko, Akoko North East Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson for the command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement in Akure.
He noted that the arrest followed a swift response to a distress report from the community.
Jimoh said the incident occurred on March 22, 2026, after the child’s mother, Mrs Olanireti, sent him to his grandmother’s residence located a short distance from her shop.
Suspicion was raised when a resident noticed unusual activity involving the child and quickly alerted others, triggering a prompt reaction from people in the area.
“The suspects were intercepted while trying to flee on a motorcycle with the child, but vigilant residents blocked their escape and ensured they were apprehended,” he stated.
Jimoh added that the grandmother, alongside other residents, resisted the suspects’ attempt to escape until officers arrived and safely recovered the child.
Commending the community’s action, the Commissioner of Police said, “The timely intervention and courage displayed by residents helped prevent a serious crime.”
He also advised parents to remain cautious, stating, “We urge guardians to keep a close watch on their children and promptly report any suspicious developments to the police.”
He assured that investigations are ongoing and reaffirmed commitment to protecting lives and property.
