The Ondo State Police Command says it has arrested two suspected Armed Robbers and recovered a toy-gun during a routine stop-and-search operation carried out by operatives of the command.
This is contained in a statement issued by the spokesperson for the command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh on Friday in Akure.
Jimoh named the suspects as Simeon George (M) and Moses Daniel (M),
He explained that the suspects were apprehended on March 15, while police operatives in collaboration with members of the local vigilante group were conducting a stop-and-search operation within the Oba-Ile axis.
According to him, during the search, officers recovered one toy gun and a headlamp concealed in the suspects’ bag.
“Preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspects could not give a satisfactory account of themselves or the items found in their possession, thereby raising suspicion about their intentions.
“Consequently, the suspects were taken into custody for further questioning while the recovered items have been secured as exhibits.
“The case has been transferred to the appropriate investigative unit for detailed investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the possession of the items and whether the suspects are linked to any criminal activities. However, they will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
“The Ondo State Police Command reiterates its commitment to proactive policing through sustained patrols, intelligence gathering, and stop-and-search operations aimed at preventing crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
“Members of the public are encouraged to continue cooperating with the Police by providing timely, credible and actionable information that will assist in combating crime,” Jimoh stated.
