The Zone 5 Police Command has commenced full enforcement of the ban on unauthorised use of sirens and tinted glass in Edo and Delta States.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tijani Momoh, said the exercise is in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the provisions of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act 2004.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the zone, Salma-Dogo Garba, stressed that the operation would cover factory and non-factory fitted tinted glasses, as well as unauthorised revolving lights, police SPY number plates, unallocated official number plates, and unregistered vehicles.
“In view of the above, motorists yet to regularise their vehicles with tinted glasses are strongly advised to apply via www.possap.gov.ng and proceed to their state headquarters for physical verification,” the statement read.
The AIG also warned field operatives and their supervisors to conduct the enforcement with utmost professionalism, free of harassment or extortion, adding that erring officers would be sanctioned.
Garba further urged motorists to cooperate with the police, while calling on residents to report cases of extortion or unprofessional conduct to the nearest station, the Zonal Public Relations Office, or the Complaint Response Units.
The enforcement is part of nationwide measures to strengthen public safety and curb criminal activities associated with tinted vehicles and illegal siren use.
