Some residents of Ilu-Abo in Akure North Local Government area of Ondo state on Monday staged a peaceful protest over incessant kidnapping in the community by suspected gunmen.
The protest followed the reported abduction of two residents last week by suspected gunmen.
The protesters, blocked the busy Akure-Owo highway, lamenting the incessant abductions in their community and the insecurity of lives and property.
Thefrontrank reports that the protest caused gridlock on the highway for hours as motorists took alternative routes in the bush in a bid to get to their destinations.
The residents lamented the level of insecurity in the area and the state recently, particularly kidnappings in the community.
The protesters called for the immediate intervention of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to end the menace.
They blamed the state government for not doing enough to curtail the activities of the criminals in the area.
Some of the placards read: “We Seek Governor’s Intervention,”; “We Say No To Banditry,” among others.
