The reign of terror is allegedly being perpetrated in the management of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, inaugurated on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 by the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN.
Thefrontrank investigation revealed that the alleged abusive labour practices are indeed a growing concern in the state owned security outfit established barely five years ago.
The allegations of abuse include “unjust” detention of personnel, human rights violation and mistreatment of personnel, Thefrontrank reports.
For instance, Ayodele Olaiya, an Assistant Commander of the Corps in the State, has just been released from detention after spending over two months in custody.
Olaiya was detained since March, 2025 over an alleged “official matter,” compelling his wife to cry out for help, and appealed for his urgent release.
Olaiya’s bewildered wife had expressed concerns over her husband’s deteriorating health, citing a terminal ailment that required immediate medical attention.
The woman had also pleaded with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for urgent intervention in the protracted detention of her husband.
Following media reports, Olaiya was reportedly released on Friday evening and has since reunited with his family, currently receiving medical attention.
Reacting to the prolonged detention of Olaiya, the Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, described the case as an internal security matter undergoing investigation.
Adeleye promised to make public the reason for the Olaiya’s detention for over two months.
Similarly, the family of Monday Joseph recently petitioned Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and police authorities, calling for investigation into the death of one Monday Joseph, who allegedly died in the custody of the Amotekun Corps in the state.
The family’s lawyer, Mr Ibukun Fasanmi, said that the deceased was detained at the facility of the Amotekun Corps in Owo, where he was allegedly tortured to death.
The deceased’s family, called for an autopsy and prosecution of the Amotekun officer who allegedly perpetrated the dastardly act.
The family noted that the deceased until the time of his death was their breadwinner and a Nigerian citizen.
Some Amotekun Corps personnel who spoke on the condition of anonymity, lamented that: “There are instances where operatives were detained for over three weeks without orderly room trial.
“Assistant Commander Olaiya’s case is just one out of many cases in the Amotekun Corps. The man is lucky because his wife cried out. There are operatives languishing in detention because there’s nobody to fight for them.
“Our problem stemmed from lack of workable Conditions of Service. In fact, it’s like we’re in slave camp in Ondo State Amotekun Corps. “
