Residents of the Ilu-Abo, Ajegunle and Eleyowo in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State on Saturday protested the incessant killings and abductions by gunmen in their communities.
rmed with placards, the protesters blocked the busy Akure-Owo-Benin Expressway to draw the government’s attention to what they described as insecurity and inadequate response from the state government and security agencies.
They lamented been traumatised and forced to live in fear and uncertainty due to incessant kidnappings and killings in the community.
The residents called on the government to ensure adequate protection of lives and property in the state and tackle the increasing insecurity in the state.
Thefrontrank reports that motorists were stranded on the highway following the protest.
Gunmen had on Friday evening abducted a couple – Mr. Jamiu Olawale and his wife, residents of Olaribigba Estate, Ilu-Abo.
The couple had just returned home from their shop in an ash-coloured Toyota Camry when they were attacked at the frontage of their residence by gunmen.
The bandits also shot a resident, Mr Patrick Ilumaro,
who was seated in front of his residence, sustaining gunshot wound during the incident.
Thefrontrank reports that the traditional ruler of Agamọ Community in Akure North Local Government Area, Oba Kehinde Falodun, was on Wednesday evening killed by gunmen.
It was gathered that the traditional ruler was murdered while resisting an attempt to abduct him from his palace by about 10 armed men.
