Barely six days into the new year, gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted a nursing mother and her child along Supare/Ajegunle in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo state.
It was gathered that the victims – the wife of a popular furniture maker and her child were kidnapped in their residence on Saturday night.
The spokesperson for the Police Command in Ondo State, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident on Tuesday in Akure.
Jimoh explained that the kidnap happened at the weekend.
“I can confirm that a nursing mother and her child were kidnapped on Saturday, January 3, by gunmen along Supare/Ajegunle Akoko axis.
“Efforts are ongoing to rescue the victims unhurt,” he said.
Jimoh reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all residents in the state.

The rising insecurity has driven residents to live in fear and apprehension.
Thefrontrank reports that on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, bandits laid siege to Ipele community in the Owo Local Council Area of the State, following an attack on the Divisional Police Station in the community.
The bandits numbering about 30, stormed the community on New Year’s Eve around 10:00 p.m with sporadic gunshots and detonation of dynamite, the Divisional Police Station was set ablaze.
The attack came a few days after the Commander of the Amotekun Corps in the state, Adetunji Adeleye, revealed that over 38 suspected terrorists fleeing from airstrikes in Sokoto State were apprehended in a forest in the state.
