Five passengers of a commercial car were crushed to death by a sand-laden truck on Thursday morning at Oyin Junction Area, Ilu-Abo, along Akure-Owo road in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The accident occurred when the commercial Nissan Sunny car and the truck travelling in opposite directions along the route, had a head-on collision.
The truck was reportedly veered off its lane and had a head-on collision with the passenger car, killing many occupants instantly.
The State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr Samuel Ibitoye, while confirming the accident, said five people died and two others sustained severe injuries.
Ibitoye attributed the cause of the accident to speeding by the sand-laden truck
According to him, the fatal accident involve seven people.
He explained that the five people killed, comprised of one male adult, three female adults and one female child, while two people sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The FRSC boss said the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo.
Ibitoye counselled motorists, especially truck drivers, against speeding.
