The All Progressives Congress(APC) Ward Congress in Idanre Local Government Area on Wednesday erupted in a bloody clash as supporters of two prominent APC chieftains engaged in a battle of supremacy.
Election in most of the wards in the local government was characterised by violence and shooting by suspected political thugs.
It was gathered that the crisis started when the two political leaders insisted in electing their loyalists to gain control of wards executives.
Thefrontrank learnt that weapons were freely used by party supporters leaving many with injuries while some of the victims sustained life-threatening wounds.
Speaking on the incident during a radio programme in Akure, the spokesperson for the Police Command in the state, Abayomi Jimoh said operatives have been deployed to the area.
“Right now the Commissioner of Police is on ground and the situation is now under control,” he said.
One of the APC chieftains in Idanre described the attack as “serious and frightening.”
It will be recalled that the state Chairman of APC, Engr Ade Adetimehin, who hails from Idanre Local Government, was on Tuesday attacked by suspected political thugs at the party’s secretariat in Akure during a meeting.
Adetimehin fingered the state government and some members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in the state led by their Chairman, Ademola Odudu in the attack.
