The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three suspects in connection with the death of a sex worker during a fight with customer.
The incident happened at the Cathedral area of Akure when a dispute between the sex worker and a customer escalated leading to her death.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, explained that the incident occurred at a brothel on Sunday.
According to the police spokesman, investigations revealed that a disagreement broke out when the sex worker reportedly became physically unwell during an encounter and was unable to continue with the services for which she had been paid.
The customer, enraged by the interruption, allegedly demanded a refund of ₦15,000.
When brothel staff and bystanders attempted to calm the situation, the man reportedly stormed out, only to return shortly after with a group of accomplices to forcefully retrieve the money.
He said their actions led to a violent confrontation at the premises.
Sensing the potential for serious harm, the brothel manager placed a distress call to the police.
A patrol team responded promptly, arriving at the scene to find the suspects attempting to assault staff and reclaim the money. Simultaneously, the victim’s condition had worsened.
Officers acted swiftly, securing the arrest of three suspects while arrangements were made to rush the unconscious woman to a hospital in the Lafe area.
Sadly, she was later declared dead on arrival at the Police Hospital in Akure.
Her remains have been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue.
Police have arrested three persons over the incident, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend two more suspects who are currently at large.
