The Federal Government says commercial sex workers, popularly known as “runs girls,” will be taxed under Nigeria’s new tax laws.
Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, explained in Lagos that the laws cover all income sources without distinguishing between “legitimate” or “illegitimate” earnings.
“If somebody is doing runs girls, that’s a service. They will pay tax on it,” Oyedele said.
He clarified that money given as gifts such as remittances to relatives or friends is not taxable since it is not an exchange for goods or services.
Thefrontrank reports that President Bola Tinubu signed the reformed tax laws—including the Nigeria Tax Act and Nigeria Revenue Service Act—into law on July 26, 2025.
The reformed tax laws will take effect from January 2026.
