Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, says the achievements of President Bola Tinubu have strengthened the party’s chances ahead of the August 8 governorship election in the state.
Speaking on Sunday during a chat with journalists in Osogbo, Oyintiloye said the performance of APC governors across the country, and the record of the party’s past administration in Osun, would play a key role in securing victory for Bola Oyebamiji, the party’s candidate.
The former lawmaker said Tinubu’s leadership has made the APC more attractive to politicians from other parties, citing the recent defection of five federal lawmakers from Osun elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties to the APC.
According to him, the defections and the endorsement of Tinubu for a second term are signs that residents are ready to return the party to power in the state.
“The defection of the five PDP National Assembly lawmakers and the endorsement of the President for a second term in office are indications that the people of this state love the APC and are ready to return it to office in the August 8 governorship election,” Oyintiloye said.
“The people of the state are yearning for the return of good governance through the APC, and by August 8, their wishes will be fulfilled.
“The party’s candidate, Oyebamiji, is competent, reliable, and a promise keeper. He will fulfil all his electoral promises for the good of the people. We are confident of winning.”
Oyintiloye also commended Gboyega Oyetola, minister of marine and blue economy and leader of the party in the state, for working with other stakeholders to strengthen the APC despite being out of government.
He said Oyetola and other leaders have created a framework that accommodates new members without alienating existing ones, making the party attractive to members of opposition parties.
Oyintiloye urged residents not to be swayed by campaign of calumny against the APC by rival parties.
“Rather than engaging in buck-passing with anyone, Oyebamiji and other leaders of our party are working hard to rescue Osun and redirect the state to the path of sustainable growth,” he said.
He encouraged opposition members willing to join the APC to take a cue from the five federal lawmakers who recently defected, adding that the party has the capacity to accommodate new entrants in the interest of the public good.
