The gospel music community in Lagos has been struck by tragedy with the discovery of popular gospel artist Matthew Ogundele and three others dead in a music studio in Ajah area of the state.
The other deceased individuals have been identified as Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, and a blogger known as Matthew Awosanya, commonly referred to as JoesTv.
The incident occurred at a music studio in the Abraham Adesanya area of Ajah, where the victims were invited to perform during a three-day birthday praise event organized by gospel singer Olanireti Akinbola.
It was gathered that the gospel group performed on Tuesday night, the second day of the event.
Their session extended late into the night, and since they lived far away, they opted to sleep in the studio.
The next morning, their bodies were discovered inside the locked studio.
According to a police source, the studio owner returned around 11 a.m. on Wednesday and found the door locked from the inside.
After seeking assistance, the door was forcibly opened, revealing the four bodies inside.
Some Christian bloggers have suggested that the victims may have died in their sleep, but the exact cause of death remains unclear.
Images circulating online showed blood around their noses, ears, and mouths, raising serious concerns and prompting public inquiries about the circumstances of their deaths.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident, stating that no apparent signs of violence were found on the bodies.
She noted that the corpses were transported to Mainland Hospital in Yaba, where doctors pronounced them dead. The bodies have since been moved to the mortuary for autopsy.
The case has now been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti, Yaba, for further inquiry.
