Hafsat Yusuf, the woman who successfully delivered quintuplets at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, has died.
Thefrontrank reports that the tragic development comes barely 24 hours after she successfully delivered five babies – three boys and two girls at the hospital.
Her husband, Salisu Nafiu, confirmed the heartbreaking development on Thursday morning.
Nafiu stated that she died at the facility around 1:00 a.m., just hours after the birth of her children.
Despite the loss of their mother, all five newborns are reportedly alive and remain under specialized medical observation at the hospital.
Hafsat, who was marking her ninth childbirth, delivered the infants via Caesarean section on Wednesday afternoon.
Her husband, a local tricycle rider, had initially expressed immense gratitude for the successful delivery before the sudden turn in her health.
Although, the specific medical circumstances leading to her death were not immediately detailed, the Kano State Government has stepped in to ensure the survival of the infants.
The State Ministry of Health announced it will take full responsibility for the healthcare and well-being of the quintuplets, framing the intervention as part of a broader commitment to reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in the state.
