Tragedy: Gunmen kidnap, kill ‘Obesere’ in Ondo
Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted and killed a youth leader, Ojo Abbey, popularly known as ‘Obesere’ in Isua-Akoko, Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Thefrontrank gathered that Obesere was returning to Isua-Akoko community from Ibilo in Edo State, when the attackers struck.
The abduction and brutal killing of the youth leader by the gunmen had thrown the community into mourning.
Sources in the community disclosed that the assailants abducted the late ‘Obesere’ on February 22, 2026, before fleeing with him into the forests bordering Ondo and Edo States.
A resident who identified himself as Tunji, disclosed that after reporting the incident to the police, search efforts were organised by the youths in the community in collaboration with local hunters, who combed the bushes with the hope of rescuing him.
The hope was, however, dashed when his lifeless body was discovered in a forest in Igara, Edo State, with the remains already decomposing.
The spokesperson for the state Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that a suspect had been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and killing of the victim.
Jimoh said the suspect is currently in custody and assisting the police in the ongoing investigations.
He stated that the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered intensified surveillance and strategic deployments across the affected area and along the Ondo–Edo boundary to prevent further occurrences and ensure the arrest of other fleeing suspects.
