The Ondo State Government says a video in circulation where Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa narrowly missed greeting the Aláàfin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade 1, at a party has been misinterpreted.
Sunday Olugbenga Abire, Special Assistant on New Media to the Governor of Ondo State, stated this in a statement on Sunday in Akure.
According to him, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is a proper Yoruba man who has been schooled in the fine philosophy of Ọmọlúwàbí as exalted by our rich culture.
“Recall his affinity with all traditional rulers in Ondo state for more than three years when he was Deputy Governor and the mutual respect the relationship birthed before he became the Governor by divine support.
“As a man who parades royalty in his blood, Aiyedatiwa has never disrespected any crown in the state. He rather showed them love, respect, honour and support.
“In fact, the Governor graciously approved the special request of the traditional rulers, built and equipped a state-of-the-art Secretariat for them.
“The unbiased manner in which his government manages ascendancy to the throne in different communities tells of his respect for the sanctity of the traditional institution.
“However, a video where Governor Aiyedatiwa narrowly missed greeting the Aláàfin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade 1, at a party has been misinterpreted.
“The Governor has no rift with the revered Kabiyesi and couldn’t have snubbed him like most netizens suggested. It is not even in the culture of Governor Aiyedatiwa to snub people let alone a King.
“Those who are webbing the Governor into their hatred should look for another thing to do.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa is peaceful, responsible and respectful. If he hasn’t snubbed any king in Ondo State, why should he do that in Oyo State where he has no stake at all?,” he stated.
