There is palpable fear among residents of Ikoyi Ile in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State following two letters purportedly written by bandits which stated that they would be attacked on January 20.
Gunmen had last week attacked an outpost of the Forest Rangers in Okaka community in the same local government, killing about five rangers and set the outpost on fire.
The residents of Ikoyi Ile reportedly woke up on Saturday to see two handwritten letter informing them of an attack on the town on January 20.
The letters written in Yoruba and English, were dropped in front and at the back of a building without name or addresses.
The letter written in Yoruba read: “Lati Odo Bandit, A o wa ni January 20th, 2026. E duro de wa ati pe ki e mu ra fun wa le. A wa lati wa fun yin ni ibanuje ni orilede yin. Ni Ikoyi-Ile Ile Oyo State. E mu ra le fun wa.”
The second letter read: “Bandit information. See, now, Three days we work for you. We said you in Ikoyi-Ile are the government that sent us. Wait for us”.
The spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the individual who allegedly discovered the note is currently undergoing debriefing.
Ayanlade said that operatives from the command had been deployed to the community to ensure and provide adequate security.
