Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State is fighting the political battle of his life to control the state’s political structure following the reportedly granting automatic tickets to all serving House of Representatives members from the state by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress(APC).
The bewildered Aiyedatiwa after been hinted of the plan by the party’s National Working Committee(NWC), hurriedly left Akure, the state capital, on Saturday afternoon to Abuja.
Thefrontrank gathered that the governor departed Akure Airport at about 4.30pm to meet with the NWC members and other officials of the party at the national secretariat in Abuja toward remediating the plan.
Reliable sources within the Abuja APC National Secretariat had confirmed that the NWC has officially issued nomination forms to all current federal lawmakers from the state, directing them to finalise and submit their documentation immediately.
It was also gathered that the party’s State House of Assembly candidate list has been significantly altered behind closed doors to accommodate competing interests.
“The action of the National Working Committee(NWC) is not the what the governor can joke with, he has to relocate to Abuja immediately he was informed about the plan.
“Right now, Mr Governor has relocated to Abuja to meet and discuss with who is who in the party including members of the NWC,” one of the governor’s supporters said.
However, a chieftain of APC in the state attributed the deep-rooted friction and crises within the party to Aiyedatiwa’s lack of political maturity and the will to manage the party.
“Unfortunately for the governor, he is not popular at the national secretariat. So, the rug may have been pulled off his feet.
“In addition, the governor is not matured politically, and that is the reason he is surrounding himself with infantile politicians,” the party leader stated.
Thefrontrank learnt that the governor’s supporters are in panic mood over the reported automatic ticket for the serving members of the national assembly from the state.
Political observers are of the view that the development reflects widening cracks within the APC’s structure in Ondo State.
