APC Chairman collapses, dies during reconciliation meeting
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Oyewole Solomon, on Friday slumped and died during a reconciliation meeting in Iyara, the council headquarters.
The meeting was convened by a former chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Funsho Olumoko, aimed at bringing together party stakeholders and leaders to promote unity in the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Solomon was actively participating in the meeting holding at Iyara Town Hall when he suddenly collapsed, causing confusion among participants.
Efforts were made to revive him before he was rushed to a hospital in Kabba for medical attention.
He was said to have died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The incident has left party leaders and other participants devastated.
The meeting came amid ongoing efforts by APC stakeholders in Ijumu to resolve internal disagreements and promote greater unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Earlier, APC stakeholders in the local government had held a meeting in Iyara and endorsed President Bola Tinubu for second term.
The circumstances surrounding Solomon’s sudden death had not been officially disclosed.
Reacting to the incident, member representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, Salman Idris, described Solomon’s death as painful and heart-breaking loss.
Idris, in a statement issued on Friday, said the circumstances surrounding his sudden passing had made the tragedy even more difficult to comprehend.
“Words are simply inadequate to express the depth of my sorrow over the sudden and tragic death of our brother, friend and party leader, Oyewole Mayowa Solomon.
“This is a devastating loss. That a meeting convened to foster reconciliation, unity and peace within our great party would end with the heart-breaking loss of one of our own is particularly painful.
“It is a tragedy that has left me deeply shaken and profoundly saddened.
“Mayowa’s sudden departure has created a painful void that will be felt not only by his immediate family and loved ones, but by the entire APC family in Ijumu and the people of the local government,” he said.
