Violence erupted at the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary in Ondo State on Sunday as one of the disqualified aspirants allegedly led thugs to disrupt the collation and announcement of results at the party’s state secretariat in Akure.
The dramatic disruption reportedly threw the APC secretariat into chaos, forcing party leaders, electoral officials, delegates, and supporters to run helter-skelter.
Sources at the collation centre told Thefrontrank that tension escalated when the national primary committee was preparing to officially announce results for the remaining six federal constituencies.
Panic broke out after the committee was allegedly ordered to abruptly suspend the announcement process by an order from the state government.
“A disqualified aspirant mobilised some thugs to the venue and the atmosphere immediately became tense.
“People started leaving because nobody wanted the situation to degenerate,” a source claimed.
The source further alleged that confusion began after a member of the primary committee received a phone call instructing that proceedings be halted.
“We all thought it was the governor, but later realised it was allegedly coming from a commissioner,” the source alleged.
The source also alleged that suspected thugs had already been strategically positioned around the APC secretariat and were issuing threats, further heightening anxiety among party members.
“They had mobilised boys from different wards. They were shouting and threatening to disrupt everything. It became unsafe for many people to remain there,” the source added.
The incident has intensified concerns over the credibility of the APC primary process in Ondo State.
The unfolding crisis has cast a shadow over the APC’s House of Representatives primary in Ondo, with many party faithful now demanding transparency, accountability, and urgent intervention from the party leadership to prevent further breakdown of order.
Thefrontrank reports that the committee had around 1.00a.m on Sunday announced the results of Akure South/Akure North, Ondo West/Ondo East and Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituencies.
