The Delta State Government has suspended indefinitely the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Reuben Izeze, for allegedly assaulting the Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, Mr Simon Mudi.
The suspension was announced in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, on Monday.
According to the statement, the decision is to allow security agencies to conduct an unbiased investigation into allegations linking the commissioner to the reported assault of Mudi popularly known as Temple, at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun.
It said the suspension was necessary to ensure that the investigation could proceed without interference, stressing its commitment to public safety, law and order.
The statement said the government’s position remained that the sanctity of lives and maintenance of public safety must be upheld “even when institutions of state are involved.”
The development comes days after Izeze was reportedly arrested and taken to the Ekpan Police Station for questioning over his alleged connection to the assault on Mudi.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, July 26, 2026, with eyewitnesses alleging that Mudi was attacked and severely beaten by suspected thugs allegedly linked to the commissioner.
Mudi was said to have sustained injuries and was subsequently rushed to an undisclosed hospital for medical treatment.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and the extent of involvement by the suspended commissioner were being investigated.
