An Ogun State High Court sitting in Sagamu has ordered the Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel to provide property documents requested by the state government within two weeks.
At the resumed hearing of the suit marked HCS/371/2025, filed by Daniel and another claimant against the governor of Ogun state and other officials, Justice O.S. Oloyede ordered the claimants to comply with the government’s notice, which also applies to other residents in the area.
O.T. Olaotan, the state solicitor general, representing the government, told the court that an interlocutory injunction and counter-affidavits have been filed in response to Daniel’s application.
Olaotan argued that the matter was not ripe for hearing and asked the court to direct the claimants to make use of the two-week extension earlier announced by the government.
However, A.O. Kotoye, counsel to Daniel, urged the court to extend an earlier interim order restraining the state government from taking action against the property.
The interim order, which was issued on August 12, is to last for seven days.
In his ruling, Oloyede asked both parties to maintain the status quo and explore a possible settlement.
He further directed Daniel to take advantage of the government’s extension and submit the required documents to the ministry of physical planning.
The dispute stems from a notice issued by the Ogun state government demanding property documents from Daniel and others in the Sagamu area.
Daniel, a former governor of Ogun, had secured a temporary order restraining the government from demolishing his residence and a hotel linked to him, following claims of irregular approvals.
The matter has been adjourned to October 13, for hearing of pending applications.
