The family of the late Dotun Oladapo, publisher of The Eagle Online, has announced September 10 and September 11, 2026 for his burial.
Oladipo, a former President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, GOCOP, died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 56.
According to the funeral programme released by GOCOP on Friday and signed by Kemi Yesufu, it’s Publicity Secretary, a service of songs will be held at Daystar Church, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos, on Thursday, September 10, at 4.00pm.
The burial service will take place at the same venue on Friday, September 11, from 10am, after which he will be laid to rest.
Oladipo served as GOCOP president from 2017 to 2021 and was among the pioneer members who contributed to the development of the association during its formative years.
Reacting to his death, the current GOCOP President, Danlami Nmodu, described it as a painful loss to the Guild and the Nigerian online publishing industry.
Nmodu said Oladipo played a significant role in establishing GOCOP and promoting the recognition of online publishers as an important component of the Nigerian media.
“Dotun played an important role in the development of GOCOP. He led the Guild for four years at a time when there was still a lot of work to be done to establish online publishers as an important part of the media. His contribution will always be remembered,” he said.
He also commended Oladipo for combining his experience as a journalist with his understanding of the business side of publishing.
“Dotun understood journalism and he understood the business of publishing. He was passionate about the place of online media in Nigeria and he gave his time to the growth of the Guild. We are saddened by his passing,” Nmodu added.
Oladipo was a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) and the International Press Institute (IPI Nigeria).
He was also active in the development and professionalisation of Nigeria’s online publishing sector.
His death has drawn tributes from colleagues, media organisations and other stakeholders who described him as a journalist who contributed to the growth of digital journalism and online publishing in Nigeria.
