A former Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, Comrade Alfred Odifa, is dead.
Odifa died in the early hours of Thursday during a brief illness.
The NUJ Lagos State Council in a statement signed by Comrade Adeleye Ajayi, the chairman and Comrade Tunde Olalere, the secretary; extended its heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy, his colleagues, friends and loved ones.
“We pray that God grants the family the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
“While his passing has left a painful big vacuum, we take solace in the legacy of service, knowledge and commitment he left behind.
“His memory will continue to live on among those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him,” the Council stated.
Odifa was a very knowledgeable and versatile professional who was deeply conversant with the affairs of the Union.
During his years of service to the NUJ, Odifa demonstrated commitment, wisdom and an uncommon understanding of union administration.
His contributions to the growth and development of the Council will remain fondly remembered.
Until his death, Odifa served as Deputy Director at the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy, where he contributed meaningfully to the public information and communication sector of the state.
His professionalism, experience and dedication earned him the respect of colleagues and associates.
