A former chairman of Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, Chief Olayeye Ayeniyi is dead.
Ayeniyi died in the early hours of Friday.
He was the executive chairman of Okitipupa Local Government from 1999 to 2002 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Until his death, Ayeniyi was a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
Confirming Ayeniyi’s death, the lawmaker representing Okitipupa Constituency 2, and the Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Ololade Gbegudu, described his death as a great loss.
Gbegudu in a statetement said: “I received with deep sadness the passing of Chief Olayeye Ayeniyi, a distinguished son of Ode Erinje Kingdom and former Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government.
“His demise is a great loss, not only to his immediate family but to the entire Okitipupa Local Government.
“Chief Ayeniyi was a man of dedication and service whose tenure as Chairman was marked by commitment to grassroots development.
“His contributions to the growth of his community will not be forgotten.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to His Royal Majesty, Oba Oladele Fredrick Akinmoye, the good people of Ode Erinje and the family he left behind.
“May the Almighty grant them the strength to bear this irreparable loss.”
